I’m honestly not a huge fan of these sort of posts (which means I pretend not to like them) but it almost seems inappropriate to not do one. I am very pleased to say that Epic Slant is now one year old and it has certainly come a long way. Not too long ago it had a terrible blue on blue theme that I designed. I imagine that it probably caused most readers to flee in terror! I also remember when getting five views on a story was a good day!
It wasn’t too long before I immediately started working on a revision to ensure an attractive blog. Epic Slant 2.0 has been a work in progress. I’ve been throwing in changes here and there with great abandon! It looks pretty nice but there was always more to do. It is under that general lay out that I’ve gained most of my current readers.
Not too long ago I grabbed the newest WordPress package and pulled it into a secret folder. Instead of lashing Epic Slant together with duct tape and happiness I started fresh. It is today, on the birthday, that I am unveiling Epic Slant 3.0 and it isn’t a moment too soon. I have been dying to show this thing off for a month! For the most part it looks the exact same. You’ll find a bit more “white space,” everything now lines up beautifully and I’ve changed the art. The navigation bar has been refitted to work cross browser and I reduced the number of social network buttons. I did add a twitter button to my posts (feel free to use it!) and made them larger in the stories than on the front page. I’ve also made every object its own “island” so to speak. Mostly though I just cleaned up the code on the back end. ES2 was a train wreck. ES3 is as clean as an MMO player that has never played WoW. I hope you like it as much as I do.
I would also like to thank a few people for helping make Epic Slant a success.
To Dresden I want to say thank you for all of the last minute image creation! Thank you for editing my work! Thank you for providing ideas and being resistant to change. Without you I most certainly would not be as successful.
I must also recognize my beloved guild mates from Sodality. I appreciate you guys basically being my entire audience for the first month and a half. Your constant encouragement and inspiration has made doing this much easier.
Thank you to Warhammer Alliance, Warhammer Vault, Age of Blogging and Mythic for all bringing a lot of attention here. The method by which these four groups handle the blogging community has been stellar. A lot of traffic has come from those sources even if I don’t regularly write about Warhammer Online these days and I will always be grateful.
It is also important to me to thank all of my fellow bloggers who regularly link to me and comment here. I will never be able to name them all but you guys know who you are and if I start listing names I’ll forget someone and feel awful. I appreciate it guys!
I also want to thank my buddy Rob who rarely reads Epic Slant but always gives me sound advice on making it usable. He is a sharp guy and a good friend!
Most importantly I want to say thank you to all my RSS subscribers, twitter followers and regular readers! You’ve made the year fly by for me and have provided valuable insight into my writing. You also validate that there is at least some interest in what I think. It means a lot to me and I hope year two is even better than the first!
